Convergent evolution and possible constraint in the posterodorsal retraction of the external nares in pelagic crocodylomorphs
Amongst Mesozoic marine reptiles, metriorhynchid crocodylomorphs were unique in evolving into pelagically adapted forms with little-to-no posterodorsal retraction of the external nares.
