Abstract
397 views Premiered Sep 1, 2025 Artefact Conservator Bethan Bryan carries out painstaking conservation on a rare Bronze Age scabbard found within the Carnoustie Hoard - which was carefully wrapped and buried around 3000 years ago.
The Carnoustie Hoard was unearthed by GUARD Archaeology in 2016, and includes a rare spearhead decorated with gold, and a bronze sword still in a wooden scabbard.
The preservation allows us to conduct research to help uncover the Carnoustie Hoard’s secrets. Read more, and see the conserved objects in closer detail: nms.ac.uk/CarnoustieHoard
The hoard will be on display in Scotland’s First Warriors (27 Jun 2026 – 17 May 2027).
