Abstract
The Cold War was not only a military conflict, but it was also a battle to be the best economically, socially, and politically. While Western ideology promoted capitalism, democracy, and individual freedom, communist ideology endorsed a collective means of
production, state ownership, and egalitarianism. But these weren't the only ideas around at the time, and many explored alternative ways of life to those disputed by Cold War enemies. Cold War ideologies and cultures had a direct impact on Scottish society.
