Abstract
This paper, and the presentation it is based on, is a brief summary of a regional case study within my doctoral thesis on 'Iron in Iron Age Scotland' (Cruickshanks 2017). It became clear at an early stage of this research that there are more, and larger, ironworking sites in the Moray Firth area than in the rest of Scotland together during this period. This raises intriguing questions regarding the development and organisation of the craft here, and what this might tell us about the people who were making and using iron in this area during the Iron Age.
