Abstract
Post-colonial archaeologies offer an increasingly nuanced understanding of religion in Roman Britain, and our perceptions of religious identity and practice continue to develop through approaches such as materiality, phenomenology and embodiment. However, there is little data on how the public have engaged with new theoretical paradigms regarding Roman Britain, particularly within museums. Recent studies into displays of contemporary religion have shed new light on visitor engagements with numinous collections but displays of ancient religion have not been similarly studied.
