Abstract
Orford Ness is both a protected nature reserve and a military heritage site. It was acquired from the Ministry of Defence in 1993 by the National Trust for its significant vegetated shingle and wildlife. However, the National Trust also acquired the remaining derelict architecture and material remnants related to twentieth century military research and development conducted on this land.
