Abstract
This paper looked at the institutional history of NMS through the lens of its archive collections. NMS holds a range of archives relating to the history of the museum’s site and institutional memory. We considered how definitions of archives currently vary across the institution, based on curatorial, librarian and archival differences in definitions. We surveyed the different types of collections held within the library/archive and within curatorial departments. We addressed how the digital turn in archives and records is impacting on how we now view archives and how they are managed across the institution. We also covered how the archives can be searched and found for research purposes as well as plans for the future to make the collections more accessible and more used.
