Abstract
When the Fettercairn Jewel was discovered wrapped in paper at the back of a drawer at Fettercairn House, Aberdeenshire, in 2017. It was quickly recognised as an astounding piece of late sixteenth-century jewellery. But with little recorded provenance, and no obvious clues to its early history, it posed many questions.
