Abstract

Knowledge sharing between contemporary practitioners and museum professionals can be more than just investigating how something is made. It is also about working together to understand why an object was created, and by whom; how each artefact has a story to tell, of its journey through time and the places it has been. It is a way to re-evaluate assumed conjecture and break out of disciplinary biases through an understanding of materiality. For the practitioner, working with curators and conservators affords a deeper understanding of the historical context of their craft; and museum professionals gain tangible experience of a medium to better understand its potential
