Abstract
This is a unique list of bird species that have died out during the last 11,700 years of the Holocene, including English and Swedish names as well as references to the formal descriptions of the taxa.
The taxonomy and sequence largely follows IOC when applicable, with priority given to the latest research for those genera and families unique to extinct birds.
The list is compiled by the Swedish Taxonomic Committee (STC), BirdLife Sweden, which will gradually expand it to also include fossil bird species back to the beginning of the Paleogene (66 million years ago).
