Abstract
The lonchaeid or lance fly Silba laevis (Bezzi, 1920) is recorded for the first time on aubergine (Solanum melongena L.) having been successfully reared from aubergines imported into the United Kingdom (U.K.). The following manuscript provides detailed photographs and drawings of S. laevis, reviews recent interception data and briefly comments on its biology in respect of other Lonchaeid species associated with fruit and vegetables imported into the U.K. This is particularly relevant considering the ever-changing trade pathways between the U.K. and the rest of the world.
