Abstract
This article examines archival records of the 19th Century CE agreement for exporting finds from the Egypt Exploration Fund's excavations prior to the introduction of partage, demonstrating how early excavators influenced British-led archaeology in Egypt. It explores the circumstances, discussions and results of the informal agreement made between the excavator Flinders Petrie and the Director of the Egyptian Antiquities Service, Gaston Maspero.
