Abstract
There are few verified bodily relics pertaining to Mary, and certainly not any resulting from her execution. A fire was burning at the behest of the Elizabethan government even before her head left her body, and her blood-stained clothing was consigned immediately to it. However, over the longer term these measures proved ineffective against the perpetuation of her memory through other types of object associated with her, which have achieved relic status even though they are not her physical remains:1
