Abstract
National Museums Scotland has an extensive Egyptian collection, which was mainly built up in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and which includes 11 mummies, most of which have well preserved and highly decorated coffins and lids. Among the about 6,000 objects from Ancient Egypt and Sudan, the gold and electrum jewellery items have not previously been the subject of significant scientific study. One of the most interesting grave groups is the burial of an adult and child found in a shallow grave at Qurneh near Luxor, and acquired by the former Royal Scottish Museum (the precursor of NMS).
