Abstract
There is a considerable number of interesting Japanese paintings in public collections across Scotland. For the large part they were acquired at the end of the 19th century by individuals interested in East Asian art, and were subsequently donated to public collections. The future holds the possibility that the owning institutions will provide complete information on Japanese works via their online collections databases, but sadly at the moment many works remain unknown. This article will introduce some highlights from public collections, as well as one work in private hands.
